After the Spring 2008 NESRA & MonsterQuest Expedition (4/25 - 4/27/08 in the Adirondack Mountains outside Whitehall, NY), I was checking my various trail cameras and images captured for any sign of wildlife.

I came across two shots from my Moultrie i40 4.0 Megapixel Infrared Trail Camera that are interesting. These shots were taken 1-2 weeks prior to the expedition at a location that Becky Sawyer and I deployed the camera 3 weeks prior to the expedition. I subsequently moved the camera two weeks later (1 week before the expedition) with NESRA member Ned M. - without changing the SD media card within.

The shots are interesting for a few reasons:

1. The shots seemingly have no verifiable wildlife in the field of view - yet something triggered the infrared motion sensor. (note: I have seen false positives with some of my other trail cams, but they usually appear when I've set the camera IR sensitivity to high... This i40 is much more reliable than my other model cams, however, and sensitivity appeared to be in check.)

2. Compared to a test shot that fired when Ned and I collected the camera on 4/20/2008, there is an interesting ape-like face in the lower left which appears to be peering at the camera from between two trees. This 'half-face' is not evident in the test shot from 4/20/08.

Assessment: While interesting, I firmly believe the face seen is simply a visual trick of light and shadows in the photo. This is clearly evident as one examines and compares details in the test shot with the blobshots. What appears to be the sunken/shaded eye socket and brow ridge on the half face is actually part of a protruding knot form the right hand tree - as seen in the test shot.

I feel this is a good blobsquatch example of how time of day and variable light conditions can really alter the same physical objects within the field of view... so I thought I'd share!
